Born in Richmond, Virginia, Rebecca Boyer received her first violin lessons from her mother and then moved on to Vartan Manoogian at the North Carolina School of Arts. At the age of 17, she made her debut with the Richmond Sinfonia. Shortly after, she joined the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra and participated in the Pablo Casals Festival in San Juan, but decided to continue her studies as a special student of Vartan Manoogian at the University of Wisconsin. She also attended master classes with Joseph Gingold, Wanda Wilkomirska and Sherry Kloss. She subsequently became a member of the National Orchestra of New York and joined the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn in 1986.

Rebecca Boyer, who loves chamber music, attended master classes with the Emerson String Quartet at the Blossom Festival School of Music (Cleveland/Ohio) and with the American String Quartet, with whom she also performed at the Taos School of Music (New Mexico). She has participated in the Magic Mountain Music Farm, New York, and performed with the Richmond Chamber Players.
