Maestro: Founder, inspiration, guiding father, trustee, European

Jörg Faerber 'gave birth' to the WKO, raised it, and accompanied it into its forties. And he found fame and received conducting invitations from abroad. Nevertheless, he remained faithful to the city of Heilbronn, contributing enormously to its reputation. It was in honour of these activities that on his 70th birthday in 1999, he was appointed to the select group of twelve luminaries entitled to proudly wear Heilbronn's ring of honour.

In the region Faerber acted as the guiding father of the young musicians' competition Jugend Musiziert and helped set up the Youth Orchestra Academy. He also passed on the benefit of his knowledge to young chamber orchestras throughout Baden-Württemberg. As a European, he cultivated the musical friendship with Heilbronn's twin town Béziers in southwest France, headed the Franco-German Youth Chamber Orchestra, and was a co-founder and guest conductor of the European Community Chamber Orchestra. His cultural achievements found recognition in awards such as the Béziers Medal of Honour in 1979, the German government's Federal Cross of Merit in 1984, and the title of professor in 1986.

Jörg Faerber, founder, inspiration and trustee, successfully nurtured the development of the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra of Heilbronn with musical flair, technical expertise, and a realistic approach in the face of severe adversities. One of them hampering the WKO's artistic progress had always been the lack of suitable rehearsal facilities. It was only in 2000 – nearly 40 years after its establishment – that the musicians and management were finally able to move into spacious rooms created especially for the WKO by the local authority in the Harmonie festival hall.
