A tempo: Faerber's 'search for authenticity'
"Art is the search for authenticity," declared Jörg Faerber, describing it as "the expression of the age." This was by no means a reason for him to tackle all the sheet music that was available. The custodian of Bach and Mozart honed the programme for his orchestra in the 'search for authenticity'. And he was happy to be dubbed a conservative musician. Faerber drummed home to his musicians the importance of 'reverence for the composition' and music that was geared towards individual works rather than the artist, saying: "Every good piece of music was written by a highly talented if not brilliant artist. We try to discern the composer's intention between the lines and hope we can communicate it to the audience."
