Stringendo: 'Württemberg' Chamber Orchestra of Heilbronn
A year after its launch, with the possible title 'South German' already taken, the orchestra renamed itself the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra of Heilbronn at the insistence of the record industry. The up-and-coming WKO (to use its German abbreviation) performed in more and more towns and cities in Germany and abroad, and also began recording.
In 1966, the proposal by a grand coalition of regional parliamentarians from the area around Heilbronn that the orchestra receive funding from the government of Baden-Württemberg was approved at their second attempt. In 1973, after consistently proving for the 12 years ever since its foundation that it was able to live up to the high standards it had set itself, the WKO was granted parity with the other ensembles and increased financial support by the regional government.
