Opus 1: Debut concert on 13 January 1961
Faerber knew exactly what he wanted: a permanent ensemble producing stellar quality. He explained to the local authority what he had in mind, declaring that an application for funding would only be submitted once the ensemble had proved its ability. The fact that the foundation recital was performed by 16 musicians on Friday 13 January 1961 in Stuttgart testifies to the extremely high standards of Faerber, who intended the orchestra to prove itself in the musically 'spoilt' regional capital. But just two days later and 12 days before the Heilbronn Chamber Orchestra's debut, the reorganised Heilbronn Symphony Orchestra made a comeback with a performance of Beethoven. Hence two fundamentally different orchestral structures were vying for recognition from the general public and local politicians.
